Why shift to value-based pricing?

When you charge by the hour, your income is artificially capped by the number of hours you can work. More importantly, your incentives are misaligned with your client's: they want the work done quickly, while you are financially penalized for working fast.

Value-based pricing shifts the conversation from "What is your time worth?" to "What is this outcome worth to your business?"

  • The Baseline Cost: This is your safety net. It represents the internal cost of your time plus any hard expenses. Never charge less than this.
  • The Value Premium: This is where profit lives. If your specialized knowledge allows a client to launch a product three months early, your fee should reflect a percentage of that captured revenue.
